This Week's 10 Best Dressed Stars Are Already in Award Season Mode

Aug 24 2014 - 9:00am

With Summer coming to a close, the stars are heading back from their exotic vacation spots and getting down to business. That's because this weekend marks the start of a miniature award season. Sure, it's no Oscars, but with the MTV VMAs on Sunday and the Emmy Awards on Monday, it's been a steady stream of preparties and see-and-be-seen red carpets. Although the stars are likely saving their best looks for those impending events, they definitely didn't rest on their sartorial laurels this week.

Zoe Saldana [1], in her first red carpet appearance since officially confirming her pregnancy, certainly didn't play it safe in a bold Givenchy animal-print wrap dress, while fellow stars Michelle Dockery and Jessica Alba [2] — perhaps unknowingly — went for supersaturated colors in frocks by the same designer. And for those with any preconceived notion that black is boring, just take a look at what Chloë Moretz and Jaime King wore on the premiere circuit. So, before award season kicks off again, look back at the 10 most award-worthy looks of the week.

Chloë Moretz

The actress went on a whirlwind press tour this week for her new film, If I Stay, but it was the sheer, lace Dolce & Gabbana dress, which she wore to the premiere afterparty in Hollywood, that was her very best so far.

Kate Mara

Even though we didn't see much of her on the current season of House of Cards, the actress caught our attention at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in a bright yellow Dior sheath with an off-the-shoulder neckline and a hint of floral embellishment.

Zoe Saldana

The pregnant Guardians of the Galaxy actress showed off her unique maternity style in an animal-print Givenchy wrap dress at the Audi pre-Emmys party in LA.

Maria Sharapova

The tennis pro, who was feted as the face of the new campaign at the CFDA Fashion Targets Breast Cancer anniversary event, looked ultrafeminine in a white and nude cutout dress by Marc Jacobs, which she teamed with strappy sandals and a pale pink clutch purse.

Jessica Alba

Talk about bold! It was hard not to take your eyes off the svelte star's electric-blue strapless Zac Posen dress — which she paired with diamond Chopard rings and a Lee Savage cracked silver clutch — at the LA premiere of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Michelle Dockery

Jessica Alba [3] wasn't the only one keeping Zac Posen on the red carpet this week. The Downton Abbey star attended the Audi pre-Emmys party in an emerald-green frock by the designer.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

The model expertly paired knee-high suede lace-up boots with a black-and-white spotted dress from the Chloé Pre-Fall 2014 collection to an LA event for artist in residence Donald Robertson.

Jessica Paré

The Mad Men star also went the black-and-white route with a stunning printed Thakoon dress with an on-trend lace superhigh-slit Thakoon gown and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes to the Audi pre-Emmys party.

Cat Deeley

The So You Think You Can Dance host brought serious sweetness to the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in a floral-print blue and white crop top and matching full skirt, with the blue heels to match. And that sliver of skin was the perfect touch of sex appeal.

Jaime King

Jaime King turned a black dress into a whole lot more when she stepped onto the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For red carpet in one with an exposed gold zipper and unique neckline that worked perfectly with her asymmetrical black suede mules by Monique Lhuillier and Jennifer Fisher diamond pin earrings.
