If you've tried following the iconic brand Chanel on Instagram, there's just one catch. The username @chanel is associated with a 20-year-old Canadian named Chanel Bonin and not the fashion house, forcing the brand to adopt the handle @chanelofficial [1].
Although this might not seem like a big deal, when you're a globally recognized brand like Chanel, you wouldn't want anyone else to have that name. And there's speculation [2] that the company may file a lawsuit with Chanel Bonin to get the handle name back.
That might prove to be difficult, as Bonin created her account back in 2011 and Chanel did not join Instagram until 2014. The brand may have a chance at winning the battle to get its name back, but so far . . . it seems Chanel Bonin is still the one and only owner of @chanel.
