The pics are gorgeous so it's all in the name of fashion!

i like poses, standing AND slouched. as long as the pic doesn't suck.

I've always wondered about that but figured I was somehow missing something. I'm particularly confused when women who are modeling wedding dresses (rather than high high fashion) are all slouched over. I want to see what the dress looks like when you stand up straight! Is that too much to ask?

I think its fine to crouch, but some models just take it too far.

I like it when it looks edgy, but I think when it looks sloppy it's got to go.

I think the bad posture pose has always been ridiculous, but hey, they still do it and sell mags and their clothes/bags/etc. so don't listen to me. LOL!

if there's one thing i've learned from watching "america's next top model" marathons, it's that the poses are much less creative expression of the models than they are "that would look edgy and cool" opinion of the photographer and/or director of the shoot.

i was just watching an old episode of ANTM and Tyra was talking about posing...something about sharp lines and things. I think the models are trying to show off their best angles, while possibly posing with the object (if it's not a cover shoot). and the odd positions create more interest than a simple forward facing pose so i guess it works!

zolora- yes! I've seen pics where the model is so twisty, and there's so much "artistic" lighting that you can't tell what they might be wearing!

i agree with zolora

Well, I don't think it's the models themselves--they're often told what to do by the photographer, and then the editors choose what photos to use. It seems like their going for a cool, edgy look, but I've definitely seen shoots where the clothes were obscured by the poses, and it's annoying.

I like the different poses, but I agree that in the fashion adverts it takes away from the dress. Maybe because handbags and accesories make up most of a luxury brands profits, they don't really care about selling the dress? However, the poses on the swimsuit model are different. With each pose she is accenting a different part of her body for sex appeal to sell the magazine. Two cause the focus to be on her breasts. If I were a men's magazine, I would definitely focus of the breasts to sell.

I agree Meg23. I love just looking at all of the fashion photography.

I like all poses. I just love looking through adverts for clothing though. The reason I buy fashion magazines is of course for the articles but I would buy a magazine if it was nothing but adverts as well.
