Recently, we've been upgrading or purchasing new things that we desperately needed. But generally in small doses and still within reason. We're much more likely to take our time and get ust the right thing than get something just to have it.

It depends on the item. I only spent $200 on my couch (it's a nice one- a second at IKEA that is very cushy) but splurged and spent as much on a great little mirror and big magazine rack at a local furnishings store ( ). I'd say my look is early IKEA with lots of local and unique accents. When I can afford more, I will certainly buy more high-quality furniture but right now it's a matter of economy. BaltimoreGal

I buy the cheapest home furnishings I can find, with an eye toward functionality and efficiency. The price of living in Tokyo is that my apartment is the size of a shoebox and terribly expensive, and the only question that matters is "What kind of shelving do I need in order to fit my stuff in this space?" My apartment's so small that I've given up on reading advice about maximizing space because the authors presume there's enough room to fit things like couches and tables. Couches. Haha. You're kidding, right? But there's not enough money in the world to convince me to trade my big-city shoebox for a mansion in the countryside. :)

I splurge on certain things. We just built our first house, so we got mostly all new stuff this past year. Some is very nice and expensive and some is very inexpensive but still nice... it all makes us happy and is what we want for our home.

I'm a perfectionist, so I want things to be perfect. I LOVE coming home and seeing my pretty apartment; it makes me happy! I'd rather sit on the floor while I'm saving for (I don't use credit) a new living room set, than have something "temporary" or settle for something I don't really like. It's weird, I know.

I have just bought and am renovating a house so everything is a splurge! It is totally worth it though because it will be my sanctuary when it's finished. I find you will always be happier if you surround yourself with stuff you really love, even if you have to save up for it.

I do on certain things too. I have a 6 year old daughter who loves the disney princess'. So once in a while we splurge. Other than that.. not so much. My couches were a gift from a friend. They are very old, and ugly. But I love them. My family moved around alot so we have alot of doubles. I think the last thing I splurged on was my bed set and that was $50. **~~Everyone who's anyone has been on sesame street.~~**

I do, on certain things. I guess, being brought up and living in IKEA-country does something to your interest of furnishing your home. I have some old stuff given to me by my relatives, some new inexpensive stuff I bought myself and then some splurges like designer lamps and chairs. Check out Danish designer Poul Henningsen's lamps and Swedish designer Bruno Mathssons's chairs! Beautiful!
