Just underwear. Otherwise no. I've been doing it for 28 years and I've always been fine.

Of course. Corallary: why would I buy clothes that look diminished after I washed them?

I do, just to prevent any dye or chemical transfer to my skin and furniture.

I don't, and part of it may be that I live in an apartment and still have to pay to do laundry! Once I have my own washer/dryer and something looks sketchy, I might. But I usually don't try on anything that looks sketchy either... I always wash sheets before I put them on the bed, because they smell funny when you first get them!

Heavens, no. I haven't gotten sick or died yet, so I probably won't start.

My daughter's clothes, yes I wash before she wears them. But for me, no never. I agree with fades the sun. Clothes usually look better before they are wsahed so I like to wear the pieces while they are still crisp looking.

It depends. Usually anything cotton or polyester I'll wash them.

Yes! I ship wool, silk, and cashmere straight to the dry cleaner because if I don't, I almost always have an allergic reaction to the chemicals on the material.

nope, and i've even worked retail so i know how nasty the clothes can get! i have bigger things to worry about than a couple of germs. except for intimates. those i ALWAYS wash first! i have enough friends who worked at VS to know that you should ALWAYS wash 'em first.

Yes. I got a TERRIBLE rash from victorias secret bras. My breasts hurt so bad and after talking to my doctor I found out about a lawsuit that accused VS of having formaldehyde in the bras. My sisters friend bought clothes from Kohl's department store, wore the shirt that night and ended up with scabies because some nasty person tried it on in the store : X Use color safe bleach or at the very least use hot water and rinse in the tub before wearing, at least try to get the germs out.

Jeans and pants - no. Underwear or swimwear always. Most shirts yes. It isn't a germ thing it is more I am very sensitive to smell and often they just smell...odd to me when you first buy them. There's a warehousey...plasticy smell to a lot of clothes. On pants it doesn't really bother me but a t-shirt or sweater, I will be smelling it all day! I am just weird I guess.

I definitely don't and have never had as much as a rash!! Now for some reason which I can't explain I do wash new linens & sheets before dressing any bed.

I don't wash my clothes right after I buy them. A lot of clothes aren't as vibrant after a washing. And then there are the clothes that are dry-clean only or are delicates. I dunno, washing clothes before wearing them sounds a bit silly to me. Sure, I don't doubt that they're covered in germs, nor do I doubt that there's probably a small risk to not washing clothes that were hanging on a rack. It's just that I'm not a neat freak and have more important things to worry about. Underwear, however, is a different story.

For those of you that think clothes are cleaner if the come straight from the back room, think again. Garments get thrown around, dropped, etc at lot before they ever make it to the store floor. I never used to wash things first, but after working in retail I think twice before putting on a new item.

Haha sometimes I just can't wait wear 'em. :P Underwear is a MUST--otheriwse it depends on the piece of clothing. If it's obviously been passed around I will wash it but if it's say a folded cardigan tucked waay in the back then no big. Germaphobes must have it rough. My mom is one and is always freaking out about who could've touched what and I guess it's gross if you think about it but come on. | :

It depends. If it's from a thrift store, definitely! If it's from some high-end store, I don't. But I do ask the saleslady for new stock so that I know no one else has tried the garment on.

There have been cases of poisoning through clothing. Beyond just the episode of House. Sometimes clothes become soaked in chemicals during transport, and people became sick and died because they didn't wash the clothing before wearing it, and thus came in contact with the chemicals.

Only if its underwear.

Practically never. A lot of pieces don't look quite as good after the first washing... why not get a good wear out of something while it still looks just right? Aside from that, I'm usually so excited about my new purchase that I end up wearing it the same day...

Most of the time. Sometimes I leave them in the wardrobe and wash it just before I wear it, which can be months, or never lol.
