Jun 20 2012 - 3:29pm

If you were a kid in the '80s and '90s, you most likely owned a pair of Dr. Martens [1] boots, and even more so, you probably stomped around on them like you were the coolest grunge girl in school. Fast forward to present time, and you'll come to notice that grunge is back in full force, and so are Dr. Martens's awesome kicks. Not only is it still pumping out the classic yellow-stitched boots but also a supercute array of more feminine styles in the way of colored oxfords, thinner soles, and our favorite, floral printed boots. We recently took a tour of the Dr. Martens factory on Cobbs Lane and were seriously blown away with the quality and craftsmanship behind every single pair of shoes. There's a reason why those soles are so durable — just click the slideshow to see our behind-the-scenes tour of the Dr. Martens factory now.

The "clicker" is a very important tool and role in the shoe-making process. The person in charge of the clicking process is responsible for cutting the leather hide into all of the correct boot pieces using a carefully chosen strip knife. The tricky part? This person also has to be wary of choosing the best sections of the hide and creating the minimum amount of waste.
