Drawing On Her Past's Present

Drawing On Her Past's Present

Cristina Ortiz is in her second season with Salvatore Ferragamo and we can only imagine the pressure she must feel to perform for the Florentine luxury brand’s women’s ready-to-wear collection, particularly given just how often designers are playing musical creative director these days. In fact, we are getting the distinct feeling that Ortiz has been thinking a lot about other design houses recently.  Ferragamo is in the end best know for their shoes (the brand's name sake invented both the wedge and the cage heel) and has not had the same success transcending that accessory focused past.

Which is why we have to make note of the fact that Ortiz, previously the chief designer at Lanvin, where Alber Elbaz succeeded her, seems to be making use of quite a few of her past's present collection. In fact voluminous and colorful is exactly how we would describe Ortiz's Spring 2009 Salvatore Ferragamo with flowing hot pink, orange, and red gowns.
