Fab Flash: Burberry Ditching Signature Plaid?

What is this we hear? Burberry is no longer mad for its signature plaid? Though the brand is not doing away with the Burberry check altogether, it has decided to put a heavier emphasis on its accessories line and upscale Prorsum collection. And the results are promising. Sales are three times higher since the toning down of the plaid last year. The idea is to bring back exclusivity to the brand and to not be a one-trick pony. Do you agree with Burberry's deemphasizing of their signature plaid?

I love their plaid though.

The nova check is classic, but so is the Louis Vuitton murakami. Do we expect LV to make everything murakami? Or Coach to plaster big Cs across everything? I think having a signature is great and new designs should come out with it every year, but the designers should constantly branch out and reach for new innovative fashions.

That's is a horrible idea. That's what everyone knows them for. If they were to switch their marketing campign to something other than the palid, it would be okay. But don't ditch it all together!

Most things that you see now are easily replicated so it's hard to tell and yes, the Burberry pattern is replicaed ALOT and that's sad. I think they're making the right move in doing this.

Any Burberry plaid I see now, I assume is fake. Probably one of the most ripped-off fabric patterns ever. It's lost its sense of exclusivity.

whatever. as long as they don't start putting rainbows and shit on things. they can do whatever.

Not that into plaid but if they want to wear it out then let them. I could care less what they do.

whenever i see that plaid i think of burberry and the classic trench. maybe they got tired of having to come up with bag shapes to put the plaid on. plus it is very easy to knockoff. maybe they need to have it as a special customer request type thing when you go into the store? when i have the money i will deinitely want a burberry trench coat!

I think they should stick with it since it is a classic signature. But try to venture out to other fabrics to make them their own.

I just bought the cutest little white skirt and sheer cream and tan large light plaid blouse that is Burberry. I believe it is featured in a recent NM catalogue. It is very work ready and breezy/cool for a summer look. No signature Burberry plaid anywhere. I am ready for a change. That same pattern dates them. It's tired. I like the changeup.

I like the plaid branding but understand why they need to expand their line. I will still buy the plaid.

I agree with swwonder too. Keep it hidden. Plus I'm all for clothing that isn't a walking advert for a brand. It'll fall out of vogue with the "wrong crowd" anyway. And the plaid will make a comeback in time - just like Lacoste's little crocodile.

I like the plaid, but I also love their Prorsum collection. I have to agree with wonder ^^ at least the check isn't being gotten rid of completely.

I don't really care either way, but I do think that like swwonder said it should be used sparingly so I like that they're ditching their plaid but they should keep some things plaid so that everyone is happy.

Wait no other option? I pick the invisible other option. It's the Burberry check has gotten a bad reputation these day's, but it is their 'thing'. I think as long as a few things are kept check, like the lining or Trench Coats, then it's keeping with tradition, but giving it the image overhaul it needs.
