Fab Read: The Cocktail Dress

Now that I think about it, I have countless cocktail dresses. What made me realize this was a flip through The Cocktail Dress by Laird Borrelli-Persson ($15). The senior features editor at Style.com, and fellow FIT grad, elucidates the importance of the not-so-simple item of clothing in a perfectly compact ode to. Filled with iconic images ranging from the runway to fine art to classic film stills (Miss Holly Golightly is the cover art) to designer sketches, the book makes it evident you can't mess with the cocktail dress. Insightful quotes are throughout; my favorite is from the film The Ex-Mrs. Bradford: "What is a cocktail dress? Something to spill cocktails on." Touché.

Not a big fan of Hepburn. Don't know enough about her.

As much as I admire Audrey Hepburn, I think of Coco Chanel when it comes to the little black dress, i.e. the black cocktail dress. Chanel designed it, and made it popular (with all due to Hepburn).
