Fabworthy: Dogeared Canvas Bag

Some slogans are painfully cheesy and some are downright brilliant. Guess which category this Dogeared Canvas Bag ($23) fits into? Ding, ding, ding. We've all seen our fair share of canvas totes — hello, I'm Not a Plastic Bag — but this one takes the cake. "Your plastic bag can kiss my canvas." Canv(ass), get it? Carrying this bag will not only make you look caring, but comical as well. Plus, imagine how many new friends it'll help you make.

It's annoying and smug and not all that practical. Although I did search high and low for the Anya Hindmarch bag... I ended up buying baggu bags, because they can fold up small and I can stick them in my purse. Canvas bags or those free reusable bags are too unweildy to haul four or five to the grocery store.

These supposedly eco-friendly message bags are getting annoying and it seems that just about everyone is profiting from the whole eco trend.

I do not care for this bag. I know you all are over this and I suppose I should be too, but I did not get Anya Hindmarch's "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" when it came out. I was traveling on business and it was gone by the time I got back. Does anyone know where I can purchase a real one? On the subject of parody, there is "I'm Not a Smug Twat" too:

These are starting to annoy me just as the "Baby on Board" signs (which send me into a bad, bad place where fantasise about owning a Peterbilt just to ram it into people with those signs). I find it unappealing..but I have to give it credit, it manages to be both passive-aggressive and passé all at once!

"Plus, imagine how many new friends it'll help you make." Umm... none at all? Even as a fellow canvas-bag-user, I'd be so turned off to see someone carrying this. It's very pretentious.

I think it's tacky and old. I just buy totes with designs I like or plain ones in colors I like. They don't need to have some catch phrase stuck on it. Currently i'm using a pink & black Hello Kitty tote I got for my birthday while I was at Universal Studios. It's cute and fun.

Eww. This "green" message movement isn't environmentally friendly at all. Instead of buying cheap products with cheesy messages that you'll get bored of, why not just use the stuff you already have? It's far less annoying and hypocritical.

I agree 100% with comments 3 and 5. This is cheesy and not even original anymore.

so not funny! If you want to promote environmental friendliness, how about leaving the "kiss my ass" comments to bad tv shows like "Next".

Oops, I mean I rather have one that doesn't say anything.

I think the excessive amount of bags that say any of these things is getting really old. I don't want one that says anything at all. It's just annoying now no matter what it says.

About two or three months ago I bought a tote that proclaims "I'm Not a Douche Bag", I suppose in response to all of the "I'm Not A Plastic Bag" broo-ha-ha. I've gotten many compliments on my tote, this one is cute too. The whole not a plastic bag thing played itself out, but totes like these poke fun at that fact, while allowing me to throw a whole lotta stuff in them and save a plastic bag or two!

If I can get a tote that doesn't have anything to say at all... that's the one I'll buy and use.
