Madonna's Cone Bra Is Coming to Brooklyn!
In just two days, Jean-Paul Gaultier will open his traveling retrospective, The Fashion World of Jean-Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, at the Brooklyn Museum. After opening in Europe, the collection — which debuts never-before-exhibited looks like a Beyoncé costume — examines the relationship between designer and muse. "I would never have been in fashion if there were no models," Gaultier said of his inspirations.
The viewer will experience re-created environments such as Amsterdam's red-light district, a boudoir, and a room festooned with graffiti while taking in 150 pieces like Madonna's iconic cone-bra bustier. While it focuses on punk's impact on the designer's identity, Gaultier hopes that, above all, visitors will "not be bored, but surprised . . . and have a good time."
