Freaky or Fabulous: Barneys' Bloody Window Display

Freaky or Fabulous: Barneys' Bloody Window Display

If you happened to walk by Barneys New York on Madison Avenue earlier this week, this is one of the gory window displays you would have seen. Both A.L.C.'s and Helmut Lang's windows, featuring dying mannequins and splattered fake blood, appalled most passersby. Creative director Simon Doonan is usually the one that approves window displays, but he says he was away overseeing advertising shoots when they were installed. The displays were ordered to come down as soon as Doonan heard. Do you think it's freaky or still fabulous?

It's gory and sensational. WIth that said, for me, it reminded me of that certain time of the month. :) And the accidental spotting of nice clothes. LOL

People need to lighten up. Just a window display for gosh sake.

Well, regardless it did its job- it caught peoples attention and got publicity and got people talking. Mission accomplished.

it kind of weirds me out BUT it was a good move on their part. many people are talking about it, so it got some attention. set it apart from other displays.

I like it, but at the same time I understand the undertones of female violence. I like it at face value, I don't like it in the public eye. Does that make sense? I like it privately as an individual, but as a person apart of society for non-violence, I'd say no to putting it in public. On another note, did anyone see the Bloor St (Toronto) windows for Sea of Shoes, Garance Dore, and The Sartorialist (all bloggers)? SO fabulous!

lol someone must've been angry? i don't know? but I like it. I see is dying in a sense, like how everyone copies each other sooo much these days. I never noticed the "woman" getting hurt point of view until you guys mentioned it.

I think it's a lot more interesting than most window displays! I don't see what's wrong with the concept.

kind of domestic violence-y.

If they really wanted to cash in they should have made it like the mannequin was being bitten by a vampire! With all this Vampire frenzy I thought that was the point!

I like horror movies and such and I can see how people "might" like this - but still. Tacky. Disgusting. Bad form, Barney's. Bad form.

I too, can't understand how dying woman splattered with blood could possibly be fabulous, or even relevant to a fashion display. Hideous, and slightly offensive.

How is bloody dying women fabulous?

Not a fan! If they had done it without the blood, then it would have looked like the mannequin was falling gracefully and that would have been fabulous.
