I wanted to be a model when I was younger, but then I realized that I just really liked the clothes and fashion in general... so I turned to designing instead.

my ex bf was a model he hated it. who wants to show up at a gig and be told your nose is too big, you're too tan, your too ethnic. it's really hard on your self esteem. despite the myth models are not really full of themselves they just put up a front and face rejection

I'm only 5'6.5" :( too short for high fashion. random people at work want me to do specialized modeling but that's not what i want. o well, i'll just stay in art school for now

Too bad I'm 5'5. I could be a underwear model but no thanks.

was in the same situation as a couple of you ladies...did it when I was 14-15 years old. Enjoyed it, but I think when you're that young and still so far from feeling completely secure and confident in your body regardless of what others are telling you that you look like, it's just not the right time. Also had a bad experience with a creepy photographer that enjoyed making inappropriate pseudo-sexual connotations to young girls. Later on after my freshmen year of college I was spotted again by an agency, but I think I lost the job when I told them that on a scale of 1 to 10 for modeling I was a 3: unfortunately the agent felt that my commitment to college in another state was a disappointment-ha! I quickly realized that it is not acceptable in the modeling world to be committed to both a passion for modeling and a passion for a higher education....a college and masters degree later, I'm much happier with the decision I made that day!

I did when I was younger... I enjoyed the work, but hated the industry.

Yep. I would love to be able to do high fashion modeling but I'm nine inches too short haha. But I've always wanted to give commercial/print modeling a shot, and I've re-energized my passion for it lately.

When I was little I wanted to be a model so bad! Actually I wanted to be Barbie! Too bad I'm only 5'6" and normal size!

I said "other" too. I never actually wanted to model, but I'm not against it. It is probably way more fun to pose with friends and do whatever and be silly.

I said "other" because i've never wanted to be a fashion model but i don't have a problem displaying my body (not that i'm an exhibitionist)! Also, modeling seems kind of cool--i agree with aesthetiix, the haute couture would be nice--but i'm not sad that i'm short.

That's so funny because I just talked about this today with my friends.

I agree with ranksubjugation. I always wanted to model to prove to people that I wasn't ugly, or at least to prove to myself that I didn't look like a boy. Sometimes, I still want to model, but I wouldn't be able to. I'm 6' tall, but I'm also 160lbs. ;)

I can see the appeal of it: having your looks appreciated, traveling, hanging out with celebrities. But I can also see the downsides: having your looks hashed over and being discarded easily, constant travel jading you to the joys of seeing the world and feeling like there's nothing else to look forward to, being surrounded by really shallow people. It sounded fun when I was a teenager, but being older and wiser it sounds kind of nightmarish.

The high fashion modeling always seemed like a fantasy "Barbie" life. I'm sure it isn't really, but as a teenager I would have loved it. Of course I don't have what it takes to be a model physically or mentally. It's too competitive and demanding.

i always thought it might be interesting, but am terribly short and don't like to be in front of the camera.

only so i could try on haute couture firsthand :P

I wanted to model (still wish I could, sort of), but I have a feeling that the desire is more of a need to prove to myself that I'm not ugly.

If I had an opportunity to get into the high end of the fashion world I would much rather have been a creative person, designing clothes, for instance, would be so incredible, seeing them come to life. A model first, and foremost, is there to sell a product, a concept, an item. That to me may be about beauty coupled with photogenic luck and posing skill but that still can't compare in my eyes to creating the looks and seeing them come alive on the runway.

I wanted to when I was younger, but ran into one of those scams out there and there wasn't much of a market for Asians. I now am weary to jump back into it, but I think it would be fun to do some catalog work for like wedding dresses or something simple like that.

I have done some modeling. I'm pretty tall now, 5'10 and weight 115. When I was younger.... I was taller than everyone and was constantly given cards and opportunities with some pretty top agencies. I enjoyed it but when I was 18 I wanted to go to college and study philosophy so, I did. I'm happy now but I miss modeling. It was a great experience.

I love fashion, so It was an option for me , still is really.... I have always been told I should go for it, but my interest is more behind the scenes.....

I studied fashion photography so my aspiration was always to be on the other side of the camera. But what I did notice was that it takes a lot more than the right face and body to be a good model, so I have a lot more respect for it as a career than I used to!
