How Do You Feel About Fashion For Pets?

Unless it is functional, like if a doggy is going to get too cold(especially here in Colorado this year), than I'd have to say that it's kinda unnecessary. I see the little dogs in the mall all dressed up and I feel sorry for them because they must be uncomfortable and they probably don't want to feel like an accessory, they are living things!!!

I used to be totally against it, but I've wavered a bit. I've never bought my dog clothes, but I will put her in t-shirts if we're watching one of our teams on tv, and I think she looks great in bandanas! So, it's a modified dog-clothes thing, I guess.

I think it can be adorable. I just gave my good friend a purple, long eyelash yarn knitted sweater for her Chihuahua and she looked absolutely fabulous in it. And, the dog liked it. I can say if this dog did not like it she would have shredded the coat.

i do kind of hate it, but my dog does have a coat for when it snows out (she's small and delicate!!). oh, and we put a bandana on her for halloween, haha. My least favorite thing is when people put shoes on dogs though!! they can't walk correctly!! that actually makes me angry, whereas i just think dresses and sweaters on dogs are silly. also, it makes me jealous b/c dog clothes are not cheap, and i am so jealous that some people don't think twice about buying chic clothes for their dogs, when i could use that money to buy chic clothes for myself!

My fluffy puppy has no need for clothes. She might overheat. But I love designer collars and leashes. My fiance is always joking that he looks like a gay man walking our poofy dog around in her pink check burberry collar/lead. :)

Like fashion for humans... as long as it looks good and isn't tacky then I think it's ok. The other day walking in Soho, I saw a french bulldog wearing the cutest thing: a plain grey hoodie.

It actually is not cruel in anyway. Very small dogs do need sweaters or "coats" in snowy and cold weather - they can get as sick as a human out in the cold. Something like a golden retriever or german shepherd have enough hair to deal with the cold. My friend has a larger dog that wears a human T-shirt sometimes - the dog feels so proud when she wears and and WILL NOT let my friend take it off. So dogs do enjoy clothes sometimes. I am for it if the doggie is - I get my first dog in a month :) :)

I have two Sphynxes and I don't take them out w/o a sweater or light tee, depending on the weather. They don't mind when we're going out (i.e. to the vet), but they prefer to be nakkie at home. ;) Well, except for one sweater that I have to hide or one of them brings me constantly to put on him! I think clothes are okay if they serve a purpose, but not just to dress up your pet like a prop or accessory for the vain!

I think it's cute to see animals in outfits. the only problem that i have is the people who spend as much as their clothes or more. it's one things to buy expensive food, but clothes and accessories, God gave them beauty fur patterns for a reason.

my pooch ADORES getting dressed up. She literally prances around the house, park, etc. when she's wearing clothes. I think it's because people give her a ton of attention. She wore her pink argyle sweater vest to a cross country race for my nephew and literally had more people paying attention to her than the race. But she started wearing clothes when she was a puppy and obviously is more than used to it. Definitely not okay to force it but if you have a dog like mine, it's so cute.

i dress up my guinea pigs. they don't seem to mind, they like the attention. they coo and beep in my lab when i comb their hair and put on bows. ::the platypus is proof that god has a sense of humor::

I have two Sphynxes and they absolutely need some sort of layer of protection from the elements if they MUST go out (like to the vet) during unfavorable conditions. I know people who just dress their cats/dogs up for pictures or to be cute, and I don't agree with that. Pets aren't an accessory or prop for the vain!

If the dog is okay with it then I'm fine with it for special occassions. My old dog hated it, so we didn't force the issue. Our new dog loves a sweater or jacket on if its raining. Preppy to the max!

I feel that to insult this would be to declare myself un-French and to insult a culture that has couture for dogs. :rotfl:

It's cute sometimes, but when the animal has a bigger, better wardrobe than its owner, then that's nuts.
