J.Crew's bright holiday lookbook was photographed in Canada, so when we spoke to the brand's head stylist, Gayle Spannaus, we had some questions. Models posed sans tights and puffy coats, still showing off J.Crew's signature mix-and-match look [1], but with far fewer layers. This was purposeful, according to Gayle. J.Crew keeps in mind that Winter doesn't mean chilly temps all around the globe, and color has the power to affect mood — why not wear it in abundance year round?

And for us, Winter clothes don't have to be grays, navys, and blacks — J.Crew is all about color, especially to brighten the long cold Winter months when it's gray and dreary outside. So that palette really works everywhere."
