J.Crew Talitha Patchwork Dress: Love It or Hate It?

I am not a huge fan of patchwork on clothing. It just reminds me too much of wearing a quilt - no offense to quilts! I am, however, a fan of maxi dresses, which is why I am torn about this J.Crew Talitha Patchwork Dress, $500, brought to my attention by SaraSmile. I love the strong silhouette of the dress but I can do without the lengthy pattern. Still, I am undecided. What about you gals?

yes, it would be a little hard to pull off bcuz of the length, but I think the solid blue top hem and empire belt cut off the business of the pattern - I want this dress!

I love love love this dress! I first saw it in a J Crew catalog and was stunned because I used to make dresses like this--more than 4 years ago. The price is what it costs to make a dress of that nature...lots of seams and accuracy in sewing techniques. I don't think they made a log of these dresses either. The Playa dress they made was similar and came in a short length. I love dresses like this, they make me feel like a princess, but yeah, you definitely get a lot of looks of wonderment.

I love free pattern items but I think this has a little too much going on.

Very cute on a super thin person. Anyone with curves will look preggers. Lady Day

I LOVE! WHERE CAN I GET A CHEAPER VERSION!!!!

If this was shorter, it'd be cute. It's just too overpowering as a maxi dress.

I saw a simliar dress on a girl at a Phish concert - and she made it herself. Not very original. That was probably one of the few places you could wear it. They're a few years too late on this one.

I think its great. Normally, I have to squeeze my large rear into something to make it look smaller ... now with this the skinny girls can look bigger and I don't have to worry about the control top ;-)

Wayyyy too busy for my taste - plus I'm only 4'11, I'd look ridiculous! Return the shoes? I can't talk to you when you're hysterical.

Besides having waaay too much going on, only someone with the bust of a 12 year old boy could wear that dress. So tired of clothes with no room for boobs.

i think it's cute but it would be wearable if it were shorter, like a mini-dress. and belted! or chain straps! ow ow!

I agree it definitely needs to be shorter, though at this length it would get someone a lot of attention!

I agree with a lot of the others- its just too much long and overwhelming...anyone got a pair of scissors? i used to have a quilt similar to that on my bed and im having flashbacks- way too much fabric.

This is just too busy for anything but models. Real women could never pull it off.

Who could wear this without looking ridiculous? Maybe a model... other than that, no way. This isn't a dress for real life.

definitely should be shorter and at least half the price. yikes!

It is a lot of dress though. I love the fit of the bodice but the skirt is just so long and full, made more so by the pattern. However, on the right person, this could look amazing. Look how it fits that model! Gorgeous.

I love the pattern, but I agree, it's just too much for a dress cut like this. Make it shorter, or less full, and it'd be great.
