When it comes to picking out an outfit, we already know to turn to bloggers and celebrities for a few great ideas [1]. But what about a star who's labeled as both? We call that a double whammy of inspiration — and also by her name, Jamie Chung.
Whether it's on the red carpet or her blog, What the Chung? [2], Jamie's cool, Cali-girl style [3] is one we love to copy. And now, with her new NFL Women's Apparel partnership, she's quickly solving what might be one of our biggest fashion dilemmas: how to stay true to our stylish roots while attending a sports game.
When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense that Jamie would partner with the brand: she and her fiancé, Bryan Greenberg, are big San Francisco 49ers fans, and she enjoys spotting others wearing her team's apparel. "Whenever someone else is rocking a Niners jersey or a hat, there's so much camaraderie there," she told us when we had the chance to speak with her. "You usually get like a head nod or a thumbs up — it's like you're tied into this citywide family, like we're all rooting for the same team. It's beautiful, I think."
So what would a great game-day outfit consist of? How about a Summer date-night look? And is Jamie on board with the "going-out top" trend [4]? Find out her answers to these questions and more ahead.
What to Wear to a Game (If You're Not a Sports Fan)
"If you're team neutral, wear neutral colors. But if you are going with a friend that is a big fan of the Niners, I would probably pick up a jersey [5] or wear red or wear a hat, which is probably the easiest thing to throw on. I would also say wear comfortable shoes."
Jamie's Go-To Summer Outfit
"You can't go wrong with chambray shirts and shorts and sandals. Or an easy, breezy dress from Lovers + Friends or Reformation [6]."
The Perfect Summer Date-Night Look
"For date night, I would say like a really cute romper [7], just a little bit of leg. Again, whatever you are comfortable with — that's what I love showing off the most. And it's Summer, it's hot, and the last thing I want to be doing is wearing jeans or pants."
Jamie's Summer Must-Have
"The Aquazurra fringe suede heel [8] in red is my favorite accessory I bought this season."
The Fall 2015 Trend to Try
"I think culottes are here to stay [9] and not going anywhere anytime soon. But, you know, Fall is football season so you got to throw in a jersey there."
Jamie's "Going-Out Top" Choice
"The thing about what's been in season for the last year or two is the two-piece, so a matching top and skirt [10]. What's kind of great about these is you can just use those tops.
I would say my top would be — this goes back to my 20s — but my 'going-out top' [11] was kind of formal. It was a wrap top but completely backless — it really only covered the front. It's a halter-top style and then it tied in the back. It's like an oversize bikini top, but I still have it in my closet because I love the fit."
