Kate Middleton Just Surprised Us Big Time With This Daring Nighttime Look

Apr 6 2016 - 3:50pm

Kate Middleton is known for her fashion diplomacy, often selecting pieces that pay homage to British fashion or a region relevant to her work. And Wednesday evening in London, Kate made another savvy selection, choosing a beautiful blue gown from Indian-born and British-based designer Saloni Lodha's Saloni line for a reception at Kensington Palace for Indian and Bhutanese people who currently live in the United Kingdom.

The evening effort came just before Kate and her husband, Prince William, depart this weekend for a week-long tour of India and Bhutan [1]. A palace source hinted that Kate plans to wear regionally relevant designs [2] while abroad, and now it looks like more pieces from Saloni will likely make it into the duchess's luggage. Saloni seems to be turning into a fast favorite for Kate, as she also wore a bright blue dress from the line [3] last Fall.

Wednesday's gown, however, was an interesting selection for Kate. With a sheer illusion top and deep V in the back, it was a slightly more revealing garment than the duchess usually wears. The piece did, however, have the chic touch of a high neck, long sleeves, and lovely dot detailing. Kate chose to pair it with a pair of Rupert Sanderson pumps.

The Daily Mirror correspondant Victoria Murphy was at the event, tweeting photos of Kate's look [4] — as well as the delightful snacks [5] put out by the palace. Kate made the rounds and greeted her guests, including one big name from the fashion world: model Neelam Gill [6].
