Look of the Day: Polished Punk

sandra werner showed off her rebellious side today wearing a cool zippered skirt and silky blouse. I like how her polished punk ensemble is edgy, yet still chic enough to wear to the office. Well done!

Here's what she has on:

  • Top: Doo Ri
  • Skirt: Marc by Marc Jacobs
  • Booties: LD Tuttle
  • Tights: Wolford
  • Belt: Unknown

Congrats to sandra werner!

Everyone else, submit your looks and I might feature you on FabSugar!

Kiki, you have all my support. This is an open place and you are free to post what you think about a look, of course always being respectful, as you were.

Very well put, Sandy! :cheer: Regarding the comments about everyone fawning over Sandy because of the designer clothing she wears; I remember on many an occasion where Sandy has mentioned that she firmly believes in mixing high and low end to make a look. From what I know, she too will look at the quality of clothing, and not the name. Sandy, this look is outside of your norm, and I would like to commend you on mixing things up.

Ms. Sandy you are such an amazing woman,I Don't know how you managed to clarify everything, everything without being offensive. It seems everything comes out so natural. You are a very fine lady. One in a million I guess. Now I know what it takes to be Ms. SW.

Well my goodness, who would have ever guessed that a blue blouse and a gray skirt could cause this much commotion ;) I thought that I would just drop by in the interest of clarifying a few things. Let's start with the belt, because that seems to be one of the main interests on my look. Here we go...... This skirt is a Marc by Marc Jacobs skirt. This skirt came with a belt. Not a Studded belt, just a belt! The belt that you see! The same belt that was not listed as unknown on my original post. Hmmmm,,,,, Let's see what's next, oh yes, *Polished Punk*. That name was thought of by Fab Sugar. As far as I know, the members of the lookbook do not have a say in what Fab decides to name a particular LOTD. So, I'm sorry I can't really help you out with that. Let's see, oh yes. the big hoopla over the word *matronly*! I feel that I can take kiki t's word for it if she says that there was no was no malice intended. The truth of the matter is that I don't really recall ever even speaking one word with a Kiki t. So because of that I would just have to assume that a person that I don't even know would certainly have no reason to be attempting to insult me in any way. That's just logic 101. I don't see the comment that seems to have upset kiki t, so it really wouldn't be fair for me to comment on that. I have seen my friend *jezrel* referred to in this blog, and I can only assure you that she is the kind of a woman that one just automatically respects the moment that she speaks. Some people (albeit very few) just command that type of response from others. *jezrel* is one of those people! She lives an extraordinary life, and she works with the major fashion houses in London. If she misunderstood your intentions Kiki t, I know that she would be very upset indeed! Okay, in the interest of time and having a few more important things to be tending to, I would just like to say a couple more things. Number one, if by some chance, for some reason some members of this community have mistakingly concluded that my feelings would be hurt because of comments on a blog site that were written by people that I will never even meet, I assure you that would be incorrect. I personally choose not to risk offending anyone that adds his or her look to the lookbook. I have never been so over taken with emotion in regards to clothing that it prompted me to do something that would in my humble opinion serve no real purpose. With that being said ladies, I personally have way too much confidence to let something even like this unusually busy blog affect me in the least! So even though I can see that many of you might be concerned about that, thanks so much, but not a problem! Lastly, for those of you that may by chance be unaware of my age, I will happily and proudly tell you that I am 54 yrs old. I realize that some of you have visited my profile page on many occasions, and you are aware of that because my picture is right there for all to see. So when I read the comments in regards to this outfit being something that your "mother would wear if she wanted to look edgy", well that makes me very happy. Obviously your mothers have very lovely taste, and by you using the term*matronly* in such a positive way, that tells me that I am not only stylish, but also one that understands how to dress age appropriately. Thank you for that, and I also thank all of you for attempting to express your ideas about what fashion is to you. That is always something that I encourage everyone to do. I look so forward to seeing all of you in the Lookbook some time very soon! Well....... I hope that this has answered at least some of your questions! Have a wonderful evening ladies! Sandy xoxo

Matronly is not an offensive term. It simply just means mature or older. Its only offensive if you are looking for it to be offensive.

meh! the outfit doesn't do it for me. It's what my mom would wear if she wanted to look "edgy".

Maye, in case you weren't aware of the fact, today is quite an historic day, and not just because a "look of the day" post has generated fifty-plus comments ;) People have Obama avis today, not to make a point about their politics on a fashion thread, but to make a point about their politics on their profiles, which they are more than entitled to do. If you object to the fact that people's avis show up with every comment they make you should bring that up with team. You referring to people's avis is what brought politics into this particular discussion. I should also point out, since you seem to be confused about your whereabouts, that this thread is not happening on sandra werners look book. This look was selected to be look of the day on Fabsugar. I do not peruse people's look books, nor would I leave an unsolicited comment on one. I do, however, comment on most things that Fabsugar posts about and I didn't differentiate between this post and, say, a celeb style post... I saw something presented to me, the reader, as "a look" and I gave my opinion. I'm sorry to have offended the sensibilities of so many people, I wish I known there were so many sensitive souls lurking in the shadows of Fabsugar who just couldn't take the fact that someone may not not like a particular blouse with a particular skirt. Oddly enough none of you have ever come forward before to tell me I couldn't say that Whitney Port's dress was too short or Lauren Conrad's collection was too boring. Perhaps you should remember that this is a F-A-S-H-I-O-N site and not a pep rally.

Oh please. My politics has nothing to do with this. I just think all of this is really really really strange.

Hey kiki tee i said the liberal thing because of the FACT that so many who were attacking sandy and jezrel have obama avitars!!! they are being politics into it!! constructive criticism is just a fancy way to explain nasty comments. again, if someone does not like a look just move on!! there are a ton of lbs on ts - go find one you do like. i have never left a "constructive criticism" comment because before all the sandy bashing i THOUGHT team sugar was a site about fashion and joy not criticism!!!! as far as an agenda, yea i got one - it is for sandy, jezrel, and their friends to be left alone!!!
Kkkkkkkkkkk Kkkkkkkkkkk 8 years
"All you liberals"?? Are you kidding me? You're bringing politics into this? :rotfl: Wow, this is too much! I should say though, welcome to all you newbies whom I've never even seen on Fabsugar before! Some people certainly do have an obvious agenda on this thread, and it ain't me!
dlmslp dlmslp 8 years
sorry, but saying something is "matronly" is indeed rude, insulting, and hurtful. there's a difference between giving constructive criticism and setting out to hurt someone's feelings.

Wow, did I get shouted at and told I know nothing about fashion? That's interesting... I'm sorry I missed it. I'm also sorry that someone, who wasn't even the "lookee", had to take it personally that I didn't happen to like that blouse with that skirt. I guess there's more to that than meets the eye. But Jezrel, for your information, I know plenty about fashion. I know enough that I'm confident in expressing my opinion even if it goes against the grain, and I know enough that I can look at a garment's cut and construction and fabric before I look at the label. That's why, when I looked at this outfit, I saw what it was composed of rather than what designers had created those components. I don't care if that blouse cost $5 in a thrift store, it's matronly, and for the record "matronly" is not necessarily a bad thing. If you knew anything about the history of fashion you would know that Deborah Harry, at the height of the punk movement, wore plenty of vintage, thrift store tea dresses and pussy bow blouses that could most certainly be described as "matronly" but she knew how to punk them up, and she knew it involved more than a visible zip and a studded belt. I happen to worship and adore Marc Jacobs, he's a true innovator and one of my fashion heroes, but I don't care if he was standing in Sandra's bedroom handing her that belt and telling her to put it on that skirt... I'd tell him I didn't think it worked just as soon as I'd tell her. No one is infallible and taste is such a subjective thing, but opinions should always be given and respected. Fab posts plenty of looks that I don't like and I never hesitate to say so! That's what makes this site fun, and yes Gabitz, I do think that people shouldn't post their looks if they're not prepared to hear a little constructive criticism. I personally have never seen the appeal of contributing to the look book, but if I did I would do so because I want to hear what people actually think about my look. That's what it's like to be someone who's truly interested and passionate about fashion. As someone else said, just because something has a designer label doesn't mean you have to say you like it, and prioritising a label over the look of a garment is sometimes used by people who know nothing about fashion to hide the fact that they have no confidence in their own taste. If that statement applies to you, Jezrel, then I hope that's something you're working on since you clearly have an interest in it. I don't what the heck I stepped into here, but my point simply was that "the look" (ie "polished punk") didn't work, in my opinion, and I don't think I was rude or insulting in saying so.
after this, i am sure i will be next,, at least it will take all the attention off of you,, hee, luvs ya!!!
