There are prints, and then there are Mara Hoffman prints, which tend to feel like you're looking through a kaleidoscope – bold colors and shapes all intersecting to a dizzying effect. At her Resort 2015 runway show during Miami Swim Week, she introduced the next stage in her self-proclaimed "print evolution" by featuring a reversible collection where prints (some of which include parrots and leopard print and actual leopards) blend into striking solids in a single suit.
"We design all of our own prints – we don't buy prints," Hoffman told us backstage before her show. "We find a place or an inspiration point – in this case, a recent trip to Guatemala, which was a country rich with beautiful people and textiles and vibrant landscapes – and then it goes through the Mara Hoffman filter a few times, and then it comes out. There's magic in between."
Some standouts included rash guards perfect for surfing and breezy jumpsuits, like a black one with multicolored string fringe that Hoffman herself wore during her curtain call. For the swimwear itself, the designer mixed and matched cut-out one-pieces with lace-up tops and high-waisted bottoms. "I love the expansion and embracing of all shapes in swim, from activewear-inspired pieces to super-sexy little bikinis. Our collection runs the gamut, and there's nothing specific, like, 'This is the bottom you have to wear or this is the top you have to wear,' and that's cool."
So, peer through the kaleidoscope of her latest lineup, and start planning now which pieces you'll be wearing to the beach next Summer.
