You Won't Be Able to Get Over Seeing Michelle Obama in All of Her Gilded, Versace Glory

Oct 22 2016 - 9:00am

We expected big things from the first lady for the last official state dinner during Barack Obama's presidency on Tuesday night, but we weren't expecting to be starstruck. Michelle Obama, whose characteristically stunning style [1] has been on display throughout her time in the White House, turned out a particularly awe-inspiring look in a shimmering, rose gold Versace gown, custom-made for her by Donatella Versace. Of the honor, Donatella said in a statement:

"I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to dress the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama. Thank you Michelle for all of the things you have done for America and for the rest of the world, for the women in the United States and the rest of the world."

On occasion, Michelle has selected designs with nods to the state dinner honoree's home country, and with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi as the guest of honor, we wondered if one of the glamorous Italian design houses might grab her attention. Indeed, her selection is a perfect fit for the occasion, both celebratory and elegant — and absolutely dazzling. Read on to see the jaw-dropping look in full. It may just be one of the FLOTUS's best dresses to date and certainly one of her most memorable.
