Miu Miu Packs the Front Row, Fills Us With Pastel Dreams
The cats must be napping. The charming prints from last season at Miu Miu are gone, but the bright color palette remained for the Fall 2014 show. With Tori Amos and Depeche Mode crooning "Enjoy the Silence" on the soundtrack, attendees were treated to a great show on and off the runway, with Jared Leto, Rihanna, Lupita Nyong'o, and a constellation of stars in the front row. This was a sportier turn for the brand, with the anorak and puffer turning up in the chicest variations possible. Even wellies took a spin on the catwalk mixed in among pointed-toe pumps with metal heels that will be a huge hit at retail. Sheer raincoats in saturated colors were popped over cozy sweaters that had an almost '70s fair isle feeling to them, and hemlines were planted firmly above the knee in a break with the past few seasons' midi and maxi lengths.
The collection had an altogether youthful, vibrant feeling that is as sure to appeal to current campaign girl and attendee Elle Fanning as the rest of us shoppers. And if you love colorblock as a trend, Miuccia Prada has made a case for it becoming a permanent closet staple with her carefully placed gray and primary-color coats . . . because if you are lucky enough to own one of them, why would you ever stop wearing it?
