The first time Raf Simons took a bow at his Fall 2012 show for Jil Sander — his final collection for the brand — he did what designers traditionally do: smiled and waved briefly before heading backstage. But after the audience kept its standing ovation going for several minutes, Simons came back out with tears streaming down his face, very clearly moved by the outpouring of support. Some members of the audience were reportedly crying, too, and every member of the audience is said to have stood up not just to clap, but also to whoop and cheer for Simons.
