Back of Fab Ad: St. John, Spring '10 St. John is over the celebrity marketing campaign. While most of you loved the Angelina Jolie ads for St. John, the brand felt a little differently. “[Jolie] overshadowed the brand,” said CEO Glenn McMahon. “We wanted to make a clean break from actresses and steer away from blondes and cleanse the palette.” So for Spring '10, the brand stayed clear of any Hollywood names and instead chose the beauteous Karen Elson to show off its sleek collection. Check out that fiery red hair! So glamorous, and I like how it adds extra drama to St. John's black beaded gown. No stars, no distractions — just an amazing model wearing an amazing dress. To me being fake baked is gross and looks dirty. I think the brand is more for every day clothes. I prefer the ad to the cheap look of Forever21. Nobody is going to be going to work in couture. This is not a runway collection correct? If you want interesting then check those out. nourhayaty 7 years i love the ad!but i didn't really notice what she is wearing i was looking at the hair!wow!her hair is amazing! leslievanhouten 7 years Even Mrs. Jack White can't make St. John cool. Lovely hair though tiabia 7 years The draw about the Jolie ads were that they had a setting the background. It would have been nice to have Elson just living in her clothes. I'm not sure I like these better than the Jolie ones. Curvatude 7 years i love it. zuleikha 7 years hmm the model is striking even vampire ish... reminds me of rachel lefevre in Twilight.... and i can see they're trying to keep their brand the same by not changing the clothes and their audience.. but bring in a more current looking model... so that brand/audience can still be competitive and on trend. just not sure if it'll work... im not a fan of st john either, and their clothesin these ads dont compel me to change my mind, though i may look twice if i see the ads out and about........ but then again i highly doubt my 24 yr old ass is their audience anyways lol... superninja 7 years Looks like the same 'ol boring St. John styling. Beautiful model, nice red hair. The clothes? Big deal. Merlin713 7 years I'm totally with ^^you^^ on the paleness! :-) postmodernsleaze 7 years I'm a pretty big Karen Elson lover (she's got an interesting look and I love the hair) and I think these ads look great... except she is a little too pale in them. It doesn't look natural. I'm pretty damned pale. And I'm not one of those "I'm not really pale but I'm going to say I'm pale" pale people-- I AM REALLY PALE. Haha. But this is just deadly pale and it looks quite fake. Just as bad as too much fake tanner, except the other end of the spectrum. I'm sure the vampire craze is partly responsible for the pale skin craze. I'm glad us pale girls can be embraced, but if you look at the last picture featured it seems pretty obvious they photoshopped her skin to be nearly pure white haha KrisB 7 years The model looks like a corpse ranksubjugation 7 years Her hair is lovely, but the clothes don't look particularly interesting or flattering, and the plain background and (relatively) unknown face does nothing to add missing context to the pieces. soapbox 7 years This is slightly off topic, but the red hair is beautiful. That being said, the ad's are okay. Not exactly breathtaking, but I like them.
