For Pierre Balmain's Spring 2014 collection, Olivier Rousteing approached the resurgence of punk, but with a light hand. That meant this offering was filled with lots of the movement's accents: chains linking the cutouts on a black turtleneck dress, studs on a men's belt, and leather laces on a pair of leggings. There are other, punkier treatments on some of the clothes, too: a men's sweatshirt has actual holes torn into it, and the slightly frayed edges of a sequined cocktail dress gave it a big dose of edge.
Those pieces provided a lot of attitude, but so did the many garments cut from mesh and leather. But the color palette — all blacks, grays, and whites — really cemented this collection's cool, punk aesthetic.
