While you were shopping on Cyber Monday, an anonymous person with a kind heart donated a diamond wedding band [1] and engagement ring to the Salvation Army of Greater Lowell in Massachusetts. The gorgeous white gold set was melded together and valued at a whopping $3,500. But even more heartwarming, perhaps, is how the jewelry was dropped off: right into one of the red kettles you see in front of so many grocery stores.
When the Salvation Army chapter Captain David Childs opened his bucket at the end of his shift, he was shocked: "[I] discovered the rings and just paused," Childs told ABC News [2]. "I told everyone, and we got very excited."
The Salvation Army will auction off the rings during the Lowell Corps' Radiothon on Dec. 12, and the earnings will go to children and family in need in the Massachusetts region. While the well-known charity organization reported over $30,000 in jewelry donations last year, the story of this particularly serendipitous contribution put a smile on our faces — especially when we admired the size of those diamonds!
