Satsuki Shibuya's artistic aura spreads naturally from her work to her wardrobe. The LA-based multidisciplinary artist and power pinner is all about creating simple yet compelling designs — and she opted for the same directional aesthetic when choosing her must-have style pieces for the season. With items ranging from understated separates to bold prints and statement accessories, Satsuki's picks from brands like J.Crew and A.P.C. are perfect for the modern minimalist.
- What she selected for her laydown: "Usually what draws me is patterns, sometimes, but a lot of time it's simple pieces with accents or something obscure, but something that kind of gives it a little bit of an edge. So for example, from afar [this coat] looks like a coat, but if you look at the detailing, you know there's frayed edges, an asymmetrical cut, patchwork, and some interesting stitching. So I really love pieces that kind of give an element of surprise but from afar it kind of seems also like a more traditional piece."
- What she's giving this year: "I love creating gifts where you think about each individual person and make a mix of little things and put it into one box. I feel like a lot of time we're so busy and we tend to purchase things as gifts, but I love it when I receive gifts and someone has taken the time to make something like cookies, or it doesn't have to be anything expensive but that there's been some thought put into it."
- What she's constantly search for: "I am online all the time. All day every day, so it's tough to say one thing. I think the majority of the time, I'm searching for beautiful images, visuals, anything that sparks kind of inspiration. Something I want to buy? It has to be beautifully photographed and give an emotional response."
