I’m not one to toot my own horn (ok, well maybe I am . . . ), but I think I’ve pretty much gotten Summer style down to a T (or should I say tee). Warm breezy nights filled with bonfires and laughter in your favorite maxi dress, lazy days by the pool just for an excuse to wear that new fedora, or a picnic with your girlfriends in your go-to floral skirt and wedges. Ah, Summer how I love thee. But as with most too-good-to-be-true relationships, they must come to a bittersweet end Sigh. Luckily, Fall isn’t such a bad runner-up.
Although it was a tearful farewell to Summer, I can’t help but get excited for Fall. Maybe it’s the prospect of not having to paint my toenails every week (bye bye, sandals, hello booties!), not having to fret about having those Rihanna beach-body abs (thank you, chunky cardigans), and not worrying about shaving my legs every day (woo, leggings!). One of my favorite aspects of Fall is the transition between seasons — Summer doesn’t feel quite over, and Winter hasn’t yet set in. So, how to transition?
I have three absolute musts that keep those distressed shorts and tank sleeve blouses alive:
2. Tights or knee-high socks
Booties and boots are great because they are so versatile and keep your toes warm and dry. Tuck your skinny jeans into them, wear them with a dress, or pair them with some tights and you’re good to go. Which brings me to my next Fall must: tights and knee-high socks are the easiest way to transition skirts, shorts, and dresses into Fall. Plus, knee-highs give off a sassy schoolgirl vibe, and who doesn’t love that? Lastly, and probably most important to me, is layering. Fall in Seattle brings a flurry of weather conditions. Typically the day starts foggy, cold and rainy, and by the afternoon it’s warm and sunny. A perfect way to keep wearing those sheer blouses or dresses is to simply throw a chunky cardigan or sweater over them. I also love the idea of wearing collared, long-sleeved blouses underneath dresses — making them both work-appropriate and adding an extra layer of warmth.
Below are some of my tips in action. Whoever told you that magenta shorts are a Fall no-no was severely misinformed. I traded in my heels for some knee-high socks and booties and threw on a furry lion-print sweater over my tank-sleeved blouse. Fierce for Fall, right?

Distressed boyfriend jeans are a go-to for those chillier than usual days. They also prove to be a vital wardrobe compenent for Fall. Simply trade in the tank top and sandals for booties, a chunky cardigan, and an infinity scarf.

I'm a big dress wearer, and cold weather won't stop me! I wore a chambray shirt underneath my dress for a preppy feel and an extra layer of warmth. Add some knee-high socks, boots, and a light jacket, and you're good to go!
