Wedding Manners: Should All Eyes Be On The Bride?

You'd have to do outrageous to upstage a bride in a bridal gown. Nothing wrong with a few men's eyes looking my way! Especially single hot ones!

if someone had tried to upstage me at my wedding i'd have been outraged...and seriously re-thinking my relationship with that person. when i go to a wedding, i just make sure that i look nice, usually keeping in mind the kind of wedding it is (like if it's a more formal or super-fancy wedding).

nobody else should be in white, that's for sure.

Yes but she needs to make she that she isn't an eyesore.

It should be the bride's day without a doubt. I cringe thinking about the scene in 28 Days when Sandra Bullock crashes into the table, I think, at her sister's wedding... no ma'am!!!

I think the bride is always the center no matter what but having other memorable things happening throughout the party is a good thing too. I recently went to a wedding where the brides parents were great dancers. First the father danced with his daughter and set the mood then the parents of the groom joined in, then the groom took his bride and the bride's parents were not alone on the dance floor but definitely were the ones people were looking at. But, my thought was WOW - how nice for the bride to be able to dance with her dad in that special way.

I think the wedding is not just about the bride, but how everything fits in together. Plus we are no longer making bridesmaids were draped table cloth as dresses anymore.

The way I see it - it's pretty much the bride's day. It's her one opportunity to shine like a movie star, let her enjoy and relish in it!

I think that everyone should look nice, but the bride should be able to stand out!

We're all fabulous dressers here, but the poor bride did not spend all that money on a wedding dress to have someone one-up her. Let the girl have her day, and then go back to stealing her thunder when she's back from the honeymoon ;)

I think you should NOT wear white, but that said, I've also heard of some not liking kids in the wedding party b/c it takes attention from the bride, and I have three little kids that will be in my wedding in April. I'm also thinking of having my very good friend, who is a belly dancer, perform during the reception for a "what the hell" thing for people to remember about that night. I want something memorable. I guess those things might detract from me, but I've never been all about being the center of attention long as no one else wears white, that is. :)

The bride should have the attention it is their and the groom's special day. Besides, if someone tries to take the spotlight, they will most likely look slutty and skeezy- no thanks!

Definitely the bride... it is her (hopefully) once in a lifetime event. Those who show up in show-stopping attire just seem pathetic to me.... you have hundreds of other days in the year when you can command the attention, let the couple sparkle on their lucky day! It is in really bad taste to steal attention!

I think the bride should get the attention.

No need for a bin liner, absolutely, but no need to be crass enough to try and out-do the bride either! It's really one of the tackiest things a person can do, turning up to a wedding in something completely flamboyant and over the top. See Teri Hatcher at Eva and Tony's wedding for example. She didn't out-do the bride but she sure gave it her best shot! Stinks of desperation, whether you're famous or not.

It's all about the happy couple, so I always try to look good without looking OTT in any way. I'll still wear a nice dress, gorgeous shoes, do my hair and makeup nicely but if I'm tossing up between a killer, attention-getting piece (say, mega-high red stilettos) and something more subtle, I'll go for subtle. :)

If you want to be the centre of attention go get your own wedding day or throw a party but don't try and steal someone else's shine
