What Numerical American Size Are You?

biarose biarose 8 years
Hey Fab, Would you perhaps be able to tell us the measurements that constitute each size? It's just here in Australia we get a lot of American TV, movies and visit a lot of American sites, and we always here about size 0, 2, 4 etc. but I just can't work out what they equate to in Australian sizes.

I've read that size 6 Australian is size 2 American, but it seems strange to me, because Australian size 6 is TINY! Size 8 is what most of the really thin girls are I think, so I would really think size 6 would equate to size 0.

OMG!!! Am I the only big girl here? I mean really really big girl... according to these sizes. I am a 22-24, yes XXL. 5'7" size 10 shoe and I love fashion. I hesitated to comment here, for fear of being an outcast, but maybe it will make some others feel better about their size. I shop at Target, Kohls, Liz Claiborne, Torrid, Old Navy. Admittedly I'm not happy with my weight/size right now, I'm going through a hard time personally. However I don't want to be a size 2 or 4 or 6. That wouldn't be me. I want to be healthier and feel better. My goal is a fit size 18. A nice round number.

I don't see what the point of lying would be.. If you don't wanna say your real size, then just dont post.. I think if women are actually posting here, then they're being truthful.. if they didnt wanna say, then they just wouldnt post. Anyone know what a UK size 6 is in american sizes? :S

I don't necessarily think that people aren't telling the truth about what size they wear. I believe that people aren't comfortable saying what size they wear if it does not fall into the "acceptable" category. It is more in style to be a smaller size so those people will admit it easier than larger sized women. This is similar in women not wanting to tell their ages. I give credit to all women willing to state their size. I typically wear a 4-6 in US brands on the bottom and a M or L on top. I am 5'9". In European brands my size is all over the place. I used to be a 0-2 up until I was 25 and then 2-4 until shortly after I had my daughter.

I'm a size 0 in mall stores, and a size 2 in slightly more expensive designer stuff (like Jill Stuart, Sue Wong, Nicole Miller, etc.) I agree with whoever said that you don't have to be that skinny to wear a small size, because of vanity sizing. I bought a size 4 vintage dress from the 80s recently and it is smaller than any size 0 thing I own! No wonder size 0 didn't exist back then!

also remember that height and weight (especially bra size)can change a size. that is why so many people tailor things after they get home.

well i am one size bigger in the bottom but know with the treadmill i think its all evening out to a 16 but i want to get back down to a solid 14. 16 is the middle of all brands- it either a XL or the plus size version. what is the diff between 1X or XL? is it to distinguish juniors from women's? some stores just are weird with their sizing...

Wow I'm actually offended by all the comments about size 0! As I said before, being a size 0 doesn't mean you're necessarily skinny!! I'll say it again, I'm 4'11, size 0, and def not skinny. Please don't forget that sizes are also a question of height, and a lot of people are under 5'3. I agree that one can be a larger size and still be fit, and that no one should criticise 'large' sizes. But understand as well that a lot of people are either naturally slim (and not 'skinny') and/or small. And that has nothing to do with being skinny/anorexic/insecure!

I think people are lying. 9/10 are a size 0-4? I highly doubt it. I think its this stupid vanity sizing. The clothing companies downsize the clothes size on the label but actually added more fabric. It was in Glamour Magazine one month.

i'm a 6 usually in pants and S/M in tops. but as with everyone else it varies depending on brand and style. it would be interesting to do a poll on height as well since my guess would be that because of all the small sizes most girls here are also on the petite side. most of my friends are very tiny (size 0's and 2's) but the tallest one is 5'3". i'm 5'8" and feel like a giant around them especially since you can't take my 4-inch heels away!

How can we even answer this question? Sizing is so inconsistent from brand to brand!

I don't know if people are lying, I personally didn't want to answer because I was afriad tha more women would be smaller than I was. So I do belive the numbers are a bit skewed meaning the smaller size people answered more often. I', 5'7 and a size 4 and this poll made me feel like a cow..

In years of struggling with this, I've come to be happy with my 2/3/4/5 frame. I look like a girl. Yay!

I'm a 2 to 4. Usually a 2 on top and a 4 on the bottom. I'm very fine boned and quite thin (5'7, and about 108lbs?) but I'm also a bit pear shaped. Up until I turned 20 (I'm 22 now) I was a 0 to 2 with NO shape whatsoever and I very much prefer where I'm at now! This poll reminds me of an episode of The Office where Angela is talking about clothes shopping (Angela is VERY petite): "Malls are just awful and humiliating. They’re just store after store of these horrible salespeople making a big fuss out of an adult shopping in a junior’s section. Sometimes the clothes at Gap Kids are just too flashy. So I’m forced to go to the American Girl store. And order clothes for large colonial dolls." LOL, classic.

I'm built just like Misha Barton - tall and thin but pearshaped. In shirts generally XS, and in pants anywhere from a 0-4 depending on the brand.
