We Must Discuss Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Outfits on the Cover of Vanity Fair

Oct 28 2020 - 10:51am

Her signature look might be her red lipstick, but Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has simultaneously redefined the power suit. The 31-year-old congresswoman graced the December issue of Vanity Fair [1] for a conversation about her upbringing, being the frequent subject of right-wing ridicule [2], and so much more. A quick glance through the digital story and it doesn't take long to realize that AOC's outfits speak volumes. She opened up about the conundrum she faces while getting dressed for work [3], and it's representative of who she is as a person and the reason why so many people well beyond her district look up to her: her relatability.

"It's legitimately hard being a first-generation woman . . . and being working class, trying to navigate a professional environment," Alexandria said in the interview. "It continues to take me so long to try to figure out how to look put-together without having a huge designer closet." But she shows up with confidence and conviction in outfits that represent her authentic self.

Her outfits throughout the cover story tell the same message, they're powerful, subtle, and remind constituents that just like the power suit, her opinions are here to stay [4]. On the cover, Alexandria wears a striking white suit by AliƩtte with her signature red lip, Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso [5]. Her beautiful polka dot dress is by designer Wales Bonner. And that absolutely fabulous black suit with multicolored tassels is by Loewe. Check out the photos ahead, and pick up the December issue of Vanity Fair on newsstands November 10.
