Designers and brands are continuously coming up with ways to help support doctors and people in need [1] during to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The latest retailer to join in and help is Mango. According to a press release, brand ambassador Sofia Sanchez de Betak [2] "has organized a charitable campaign to support Doctors Without Borders [3] in its fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic and other humanitarian missions that have been exacerbated due to the expansion of the virus."
Through her brand Chufy [4], Sophia is organizing an auction [5] to take place on April 15, where she will be selling the original Mango dress she wore during the 2019 Met Gala [6]. Mango designed the exclusive dress "which reflected the extravagant concept the occasion required, while celebrating Mango's identity as a brand." The gala, which normally takes place on the first Monday of May, has been postponed indefinitely this year [7] due to the pandemic.
In addition to the colorful Met Gala gown being donated by Mango, other close friends and partners of Sanchez de Betak — including André Saraiva, Leandra Medine, Ezra Petronio, and Andrés Velencoso — have contributed limited-edition designs, which will also be auctioned. The auction will close on April 19, and all proceeds from the auction will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.
