Resuming its original programming, the 2022 Met Gala [1] will return on the first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The highly anticipated event [2], which supports the Costume Institute and celebrates its current exhibition, titled "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," will welcome Regina King [3], Blake Lively [4], Ryan Reynolds [5], and Lin-Manuel Miranda [6] as its official cochairs. Fashion designer Tom Ford, Instagram's Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour will continue on as honorary chairs. There will be a live stream hosted by actors Vanessa Hudgens [7] and La La Anthony, who will interview attendees and showcase their looks as they arrive.
The New York Times's chief fashion critic, Vanessa Friedman, released the news in a tweet [8] in March. "Scoop: and the next Met Gala celeb co-chairs are…Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda," she wrote. "Honorary chairs Tom Ford, Instagram's Adam Moressi [sic] and Anna Wintour." This year's theme is "Gilded Glamour," she revealed, adding: "Point is: this one is going to be very dressed-up indeed." The theme already has people talking on Twitter, many of whom questioned its sensitivity to the current political climate. Influencer Bryanboy [9] wrote, "Gilded glamour at a time of war, let them eat cake."
While we wait to see guests' fashionable takes on the theme, one star who will not be in attendance is Zendaya [10]. The actress told Extra [11] that she will miss the event because of her filming schedule for a few upcoming movies. That said, fans will get to see the Gen Z star on the red carpet with several premieres coming up in the not-so-distant future. Nonetheless, fashion enthusiasts will certainly miss her presence at fashion prom this year.
The 2022 Met Gala theme and exhibition are the second part of a tribute to the country's history. The first part, titled "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," opened in September 2021 and is still on view.

When Is the 2022 Met Gala?
The Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 2, 2022. The event will emerge from the pandemic with part two of its celebration of American fashion, and this year's theme will make the red carpet a must-see event.
The public will have access to the accompanying exhibition, "An Anthology of Fashion," starting May 7. Exploring the foundation of American fashion, it will feature close to 100 examples from designers and dressmakers from the 19th century to the mid-late 20th century.
2022 Met Gala Theme
"Gilded Glamour," the 2022 Met Gala theme, immediately conjures up images of embellished gowns or suiting rendered in opulent fabrics. Rihanna [13]'s iconic Guo Pei robe ensemble [14] is a perfect example, as are Markarian [15]'s Victorian-inspired designs and Valentino [16]'s vibrant pink dresses presented for fall 2022. And with collections like Louis Vuitton's and Gucci's spring 2022 offerings to choose from, celebrities and their stylists will have no shortage of inspiration.
Will Zendaya Attend the Met Gala 2022?
Zendaya [17] announced that she will unfortunately not be in attendance at the Met Gala this year. During an interview with Extra [18], she said, "I'm gonna disappoint my fans here, but I will be working. Your girl's gotta work and make some movies."
Will There Be a Met Gala 2022 Live Stream?
The Met Gala's live stream will be hosted by Vanessa Hudgens [19] and La La Anthony alongside Vogue editor Hamish Bowles. They'll interview some of the stars in attendance, as well as preview their looks for viewers at home. The previous Met Gala red carpet was hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer.
