Miley Cyrus Was Quarantined in Sweats and a Top Knot, but This Shoot Changed Everything

May 5 2020 - 7:56am

WSJ. Magazine tapped Miley Cyrus [1] to star on the cover of the digital June issue, but there was a twist: she had to style herself completely and take her own portraits, being that she's quarantined at home just like everybody else. Did you expect her to turn down an opportunity like that? Of course not; she impressed us with her colorful wardrobe as she always does. Miley's interview centers largely around her new show, Bright Minded [2], which has been a real highlight and treat, brightening our lives and also providing a learning experience to her fans and followers through one-on-one interviews. "It's hilarious people call this a TV show when it's just Instagram Live," Miley told WSJ.

Miley coordinated interviews with Demi Lovato [3], Hailey Bieber [4], and Selena Gomez [5], to name a few, but when she got to talk to Senator Elizabeth Warren in episode 19 [6], that's when wardrobe, hair, and makeup choices really came into play.

"Oh, my God! With Elizabeth Warren, I was so nervous I even put on a nice linen blouse. I don't even own a friggin' blouse! Everything in my closets is studded or leather or latex, honey. So I'm going through my damn closet, like, What am I going to wear to interview the friggin' senator? That was my main stress, of course. How am I going to serve political realness? But a lot of the time it's been important for me to be wearing what everyone else is wearing at home. I'm in my sweatpants and a topknot, just like everyone else. I've only washed my hair twice for the show: once for Elton John and once for Senator Warren," Miley told WSJ. Magazine.

Miley ended up choosing an oversize white blouse, freshly pressed, and a gold choker necklace for the occasion, which is definitely a streamlined look for her and a far cry from the clothes she dressed up in for the WSJ. shoot you'll see ahead. Frankly, we're kind of glad Miley reserved these wild outfits for this moment — her peace sign jumpsuit, "Wash Your Hands" graphic tee, and scale-like, PVC halter completely brightened my day, and it's amazing that Miley can do that without even speaking a word.
