Aside from sourcing your own one-of-a-kind design, thrifting your clothes is cool for so many other reasons. It's a sustainable way to shop [2] and it paves the way for an environmentally friendly industry with the recycling of materials. (Some of our favorite brands like Reformation and Rebecca Taylor are leading the charge on that [3].) But it also allows you to get your hands on a piece of someone else's history — there's a whole story behind one article of clothing, and we like the idea of that quite a lot.
We chatted with The RealReal [4] about the search that the luxury consignment retailer site saw in 2019, and four items were most heavily in demand: the Burberry vintage trench, Chanel vintage jackets and blazers, Moncler puffers, and Yves Saint Laurent silk tops and leather skirts. The street style we saw within the past year is proof that this data is more than accurate — we spotted these items multiple times across cities during Fashion Month, after all.
