Nicki Minaj and the Curious Case of Her Pink Chanel Crocs

Singer and rapper Nicki Minaj posted on her Instagram feed for the first time since January, sharing a photo of herself naked, save for a pair of pink Crocs [1] bedazzled with Chanel jewels. Minaj sat atop her pink tufted desk with furry, heart-shaped pillows and Chanel logo-fied candy. She was dripping in diamond chains and rhinestones. Naturally, the fashion statement caused quite a stir.

Little did we know, she was teasing an Instagram Live with Drake [2] from her beauty room along with the rerelease of her iconic 2009 mixtape "Beam Me Up Scotty," which comes with three new tracks including "Seeing Green," featuring Drake and Lil Wayne, a "Crocodile Teeth" remix with Skillibeng, and "Fractions." Hopefully, that will tide us over until we get more information about Minaj's upcoming docuseries on HBO Max [3], which she teased back in November.

Even though Minaj added a blue Fendi outfit to her feed in celebration of the news, it was her Crocs that broke the internet. While Crocs have been making a steady comeback — Questlove wore a metallic pair to DJ the Oscars [4], and Justin Bieber is a recent collaborator [5] — Nicki introduces a whole new vibe with her charms.

Footwear retailer The Sole Supplier [6] confirmed a 4,900 percent spike in US search for pink Crocs in a matter of hours following her initial post.
