A Queer History of Fashion: From the Closet to the Catwalk
Where: The Museum at FIT, NYC
When: Sept. 13, 2013, to Jan. 4, 2014
What: Some of the greatest designers in fashion history have been gay, and this exhibit explores the history of fashion "through the lens of gay and lesbian life and culture." The pieces in the exhibit span nearly a century, and come from the archives of Cristobal Balenciaga, Gianni Versace (pictured at left with Naomi Campbell and Carla Bruni in 1992), and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Bonus: A number of designers featured in the exhibit, as well as other industry figures, will participate in a symposium about the show on Nov. 8 and 9. Simon Doonan, InStyle's Hal Rubenstein, and John Bartlett are among the people scheduled to appear.
