>>  Too bad real life isn't like the movies -- we don't all get to be decked out in Chanel after putting in one hard day at the Vogue offices.  That is what happens in The Devil Wears Prada, after all.
Sacha Forbes, assistant to Brit Vogue editor Alex Shulman, clears up the misconceptions for us a little -- she is only asked to "deal with it" and get her editor "to the front of the waitlist please!"  None of this devil nonsense.
Besides, even at Vogue, mistakes can be made, Sacha explains:

Only last week, a girl in our office made the fatal error of telling Alex that designer Alexander McQueen had called, when it was retail magnate Sir Philip Green.

I have to say, mixing up McQueen and Topshop is pretty bad -- heads might roll around my own office if that travesty happened.
