The premiere for the live-action movie "The Little Mermaid" [1] hit London on May 15, and if there was one fashion trend to hit the aptly colored blue carpet, it was "under-the-sea chic." "Bridgerton [2]" star Simone Ashley, who plays Indira in the film as one of Ariel's sisters, served a subtly sexy take on the theme.
Styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray [3], the 28-year-old stood out in a nude cutout dress at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. The actor rocked the floor-length Victoria Beckham gown, which featured a keyhole cutout at the chest and entire wavy mesh panels down either side. The netted details were made even more striking by the seaweed-style streams of fabric at the bottom of the dress, which was a stylish nod to the theme. Ashley, who recently soft-launched her relationship with Tino Klein [4] on Instagram, added a pair of sky-high metallic silver platform Jimmy Choo heels and a collection of seashell rings on her fingers.
The drama didn't end there, either. While her skin was kept dewy and natural, makeup artist Alex Babsky [5] drew attention to her eyes with midnight blue smokey shadow, while her hair was tousled into loose waves by celebrity hairstylist Halley Brisker [6].
This isn't the first sea-themed attire she has worn. Hitting up the LA premiere of "The Little Mermaid," Ashley wore a Barbiecore-inspired pink Versace dress [7] that showed off her legs and a fabric mermaid "tail." It's clear she understood the assignment.
Ashley's mermaid-inspired ensemble is just one of many at the premiere, with the star joining the the likes of Halle Bailey, who plays the lead role of Ariel [8], wearing a gorgeous white custom shell-inspired Miss Sohee gown styled by Nichole Goodman [9], and Melissa McCarthy, who plays Ursula [10], in a hot pink ruffle gown with larger-than-life matching platform boots.
