Wedge salads consist of five ingredients: a wedge of iceberg lettuce, one tomato, 1/2 cup of crumbled blue cheese, blue cheese salad dressing, and at least one slice of cooked bacon. If we do the calorie math on that one, taking into account all of the calories in each of these ingredients, you're looking at least 400 calories for a side salad.
If you absolutely love your wedge salad, first thing's first — replace the iceberg lettuce with a nutrient-rich leafy green like romaine lettuce. Kiss the blue cheese, bacon, and blue cheese dressing goodbye, and say hello to a creamy and tangy dressing that isn't loaded with fat. I like this Greek yogurt based dressing.
