Beach. Sand. Pool. Sunshine. Ahhh, summertime. There's nothing like it. But there's nothing worse than heading out with the wrong gear packed in your beach bag or dressed in a swimsuit that is prone to wardrobe malfunctions.

Whether you're paddleboarding, surfing, playing beach volleyball, or just lounging poolside, here's your must-have beach-bag essentials to keep you looking chic and refreshed while staying active this Summer.

1. Swimwear
Nothing's worse than having to constantly adjust your swimsuit. You want a swimsuit that's cute and keeps you covered in all the right spots. Calavera Swimwear and Mi Ola make functional and sexy swimwear that meets the demanding needs of surfers, beach volleyball players, and triathletes. These bikinis are designed intelligently and don't budge an inch.

2. Board Shorts
Board shorts are a great way to provide a little extra coverage on the beach or in the water. Roxy makes a number of different board shorts in different lengths.

3. Leggings
While leggings might not seem like beach-appropriate wear, these leggings from Teeki are perfect for paddleboarding, surfing, and SUP yoga. They are lightweight, quick-drying, and protect you from the sun (and board rash).

4. Cover-Up
A cover-up is a great thing to throw on after you swim or when you've had enough sun. This one from Athleta is extremely breathable. It hangs just below your hips and, with a hoodie and UPF 50+ fabric, it shields you from the sun.

5. Sandals
These sandals from OluKai aren't your ordinary flip-flops. The full-grain leather footbed includes a molded EVA midsole that supports your arch comfortably. OluKai is also the official footwear of the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association, so you know that they are made to perform in a variety of conditions.

6. Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a no-brainer when you're out at the beach or pool all day. Supergoop! offers broad-spectrum sunscreen that's oil-free, lightweight, and fast-absorbing. It's not sticky or tacky and won't leaving you with chalky residue on your skin. Bonus: it replenishes the moisture in your skin too.

7. Water Bottle
A water bottle is a must and a cheeky one is even better. At 27 ounces, this Mizu Stainless Steel water bottle from Spiritual Gangster will keep you hydrated while you're out in the sun. It's made of recycled steel and is BPA-free so you know you're being healthy and environmentally conscious.

8. Kindle
When you're ready to lounge, read the latest bestseller or magazine on your Kindle. It's small and lightweight, and there's no glare even in bright sunlight.

9. Waterproof Smartphone Case
When you're out in the water or at the beach, you don't want to miss out on taking photos of all the fun. OtterBox makes a range of waterproof smartphone cases that will protect your phone from drops, dings, and water so you can capture that action.
