Constantly Counting Calories
Why it's bad for your heart:
- Worrying about every calorie can up your stress levels, which puts extra strain on your heart.
- Some low-cal foods aren't necessarily heart-healthy. (For instance, diet soda increases the risk of stroke.)
Why it's bad for your overall health:
- You can forget to consider where those calories are coming from — fats? carbs? — and fewer calories doesn't always mean that a food is good for you.
- When it's all about the numbers, you may forget to include a range of foods, and variety can be just as important as quantity.
