While protein shakes are convenient, I've never been a fan of their hard-to-pronounce ingredients, nor do I believe they are worth the price and the hype. It wasn't until I tried the Garden of Life Raw Organic Meal that I became a protein shake advocate. I can honestly say that starting off my day with a scoop for breakfast (blended with almond milk and a banana) has put a pep in my step. Not only does it keep me full throughout the morning, it has helped my digestion and energy levels too.
Similar to a big bowl of greens, it has all the fiber, vitamins, and minerals you would find without the hefty preparation when you're rushing off to work. It's also gluten-, dairy-, and lactose-free so just about anyone can enjoy it. A two-scoop serving contains 34 grams of protein, but I've noticed that when blended with fruit and "milk," one scoop is more than enough for me. I was so impressed by the benefits, I bought an entire canister ($40), but you can give it a try first with a single-serving packet (available at Whole Foods).
