Burn Pilates: The Pilates, Weight-Training, and Cardio Workout Comes to DVD

We are pumped to share one of our favorite stories from Self here on FitSugar!

San Francisco has been keeping a fitness secret . . . the three-in-one toning workout Burn. Luckily creator Lisa Corsello is sharing her secret with a new workout DVD from the cult-favorite studio! Try the 55-minute circuit workout at home with the Burn DVD. "Now we can bring what I feel to be the most universally effective way to help people achieve their fitness goals to everyone," Lisa said.

Just in time for beach season, Burn offers a 55-minute, body-sculpting workout that combines the core focused and firming properties of Pilates with the toning and strengthening aspects of weight training and heart-pumping, calorie-burning cardio. Dare I say that P-W-C is the new GTL?

Who will love this workout: fans of yoga and Pilates who want an added challenge as well as gym junkies who need to incorporate more flexibility training into their fitness routine.
What you need: two medium weights (about 5 pounds), two light weights (between 1-3 pounds) and a mat.
What to expect: The workout is broken into sections targeting different muscles (arms, abs and legs) interspersed with cardio drills (with both low and high impact options) like the love-to-hate burpees. The circuit is quick-paced, meaning you won't get bored and you'll constantly feel the burn.

Interested in trying the workout? Read on for a butt-sculpting exercise straight from the Burn DVD!

Here's one crowd-pleasing, bikini-worthy exercise from the workout: the butt-shaping leg lifts from the leg/mat series:

  1. Lie on your stomach, fold your arms and rest your forehead on your hands. Feet are hip-width apart.
  2. Pull abs in to prevent the back from arching and lift legs up towards the ceiling as high as you can go.
  3. Do 30-40 raises. (When done as part of the butt sculpting series, you'll only do 10 reps!)
