Do at Least Three Different Types of Cardio a Week

Running is a great form of exercise, but you don't want to get stuck in a rut of hopping on the treadmill every time you go to work out. Not only will you end up getting bored, but you're apt to injure yourself from the repetitive motion.

Make a pact with yourself to include at least three different types of cardio throughout your week. Run on Mondays, swim on Tuesdays, run on Wednesday, play a friend in a tennis match on Thursday, jog around the park on Friday, and Saturday or Sunday go for a bike ride. There are so many ways you can move your body, and not only will mixing up your cardio help you prevent injury, but you'll end up strengthening more areas of your body.

Yeah cross training gives better results and prevents boredom and injury. I run, do spin classes, jump rope, do kick box combat or TaeBo, zumba, rowing, circuit training, swimming, aqua running, kettle bells, and hiking. I also do the elliptical and the treadmill, and power yoga occasionally. Sometimes I'll do 2 or 3 different forms of cardio in one workout, like run for 40 minutes, jump rope for 15 minutes, and row or do the elliptical for 20-30 minutes( intervals)

I love to rock climb, play softball, rollerblade, and run. Two more weeks into this weather, and I should have no worries. No more rock wall climbing!

Yeah, I live in the sticks too.. I alternate running/walking on the road and on the treadmill. I need to get a bike I guess.

I walk and run on the treadmill, bike and do the elliptical. I switch it up every day. Monday I walked, Tuesday I ran and did legs, Today I did the elliptical and arms, tomorrow I'll probably bike and do legs again, and Friday I'll do a couple different machines! Yay. I'd swim if the pool weren't a 45 minute drive away.. too inconvienent for morning workouts.

Great tip!! I love variety. I am always doing something different. I run, bike, do aerobics, tennis, racquetball. Whatever, as long as I am moving. But I also recognize the importance of rest and proper care!!

I think you should do whatever motivates you to work out. I love to run so if I tell myself that I can't run because I ran yesterday, I'm more likely to not work out at all than to do another form of cardio. I think if you're in shape, making sure to warm up properly and stretch after cardio and also supplementing your cardio workouts with strength training a few times a week, then you really should just do whatever gets you out the door and moving.

I tend to just go for a run, too. Though I guess now that I moved into an apartment complex with a gym, I can switch it up more often.

I wish I had more options, but I live out in the sticks - running, walking, or biking are my options. I think I would be more apt to hurt myself on a bike one day a week than I would be running three days - I am not a good bike rider! haha

I do the eliptical every time. Can I get an injury from that? It's low impact.

during the winter when I work out in a gym, I do mini triathalons since I get bored on the machines... 15 -20 minutes on three different machines (usually treadmill, rowing machine, stair climber). it's an especially good way to get back in shape if you haven't worked out in awhile... you in total will get 45 - 60 minutes of exercise but can pause a little in between

I love variety, though I don't like biking :) I just finished a half-marathon, and I was really missing my cross training with having to run and recover so much!

I really need to do this. I tend to just go for a run, but I miss mixing it up. Thanks for the push. :)
