Do You Blot Your Pizza?

Out for a family dinner at our local pizzeria, I was mocked by my husband for blotting my pizza. Although the slice was tasty, the layer of grease was unappetizing. I am sure I saved some unnecessary calories. A belly ache later, the mister recanted his jokes and thinks next pizza feast he will be blotting, too.

What about you?

I used to when I ate cheese, but now there's no need :)

Absolutely. Why wouldn't you? No one needs extra animal fat. Now dipping in Italian dressing or other oil, I'm not so against that since it's olive/vegetable based oils.

I am from Brooklyn, NY and most of the women in my family do this. Some of the men too but I guess it's mostly women because of the whole saving calories thing. I don't think it's tacky at all and I don't care if I am in public or private. It's not like I am playing with my food. Either way I am blotting my pizza so I can taste everything instead of just having a n instant coat of grease in my mouth.

Absolutely, though now that I'm trying to cut back on meat and cut out cow's milk, it isn't really a problem anymore. Typically if I eat pizza these days, it's something I've made at home, sans pounds of grease.

I do occasionally, mostly when it's ordered though. It has always been a mystery to me how pizzerias get their pizza to be so greasy. When I make it at home it's NEVER that bad, even if I cover it in cheese.

I don't really eat pizza, but if I did, I'd blot it off. If it cuts down on how many calories I get, it's a good thing.

If there's visible grease, definitely. It just coats the roof of your mouth and leaves you feeling sick. Not that it matters much anymore! There are fewer places for good gluten-free pizza than I'd like. :(

There should be a sometimes button. If the pizza is obviously greasy, then yes, but if not, then I don't blot. Unnecessary blotting results with cheese on the napkin. Usually I order my pizza with extra sauce and easy on the cheese, so I rarely have to blot.

I've been blotting since I was a kid. I saw it somewhere and have done it ever since. It doesn't take any flavor away from the slice and you feel less guilty about eating all that extra greese.

100% of the time. I've noticed that when I don't, I get heartburn without fail.

Despite the ridicule; always. And I agree with the comments that it tastes better without all the grease. It depends on the pizza, though; some places don't make it greasy, others its like a never-ending grease bomb.

Absolutely. I do it for multiple reasons 1. it tastes better without the extra grease 2. less calories (duh) and 3. my stomach really loves me for it as it can't handle grease.

I do, always have. Don't know if it really saves any fat or calories, but it's a habit.
