10 Things to Never Say to a Healthy Eater

Do You Bring Your Own Healthy Snacks to the Movies?

One of my friends, who's vegan, likes to always snack healthy and animal-product-free, which can be difficult when she goes to the movies. To solve this predicament, she brings her own popcorn — topped with olive oil and sea salt — in a baggie in her purse. During the Summer months, with blockbusters galore and the theater's air conditioning calling your name, frequent movie theater jaunts may make for some unhealthy snacking habits. With all the buttery, sugary concession stand choices available, a simple solution may be bringing your own healthy alternatives (like these popcorn ideas). Do you bring your own? Or do you have another way to limit your cal intake at the movies?

Most concession foods don't do it for me. My movie snacks aren't usually healthy (i.e. Gardetto's, caramel corn) but they're what I want to eat at the movies and I know exactly how much fat, calories, etc. is in it.

Yes I do... sometimes. On the times that I don't bring snacks, I just don't snack!

I bring a flask so I can spike the diet coke I buy at the theater. :)

Itsthatgal, you're not supposed to take in any food in the U.S., either. I always find it interesting to read the comments of people who bring in food that you can buy at the theater (e.g. candy, even bottled water) and compare them to their other comments. I don't know why people think it's OK to break this rule but not other similar ones.

In all the cinemas I've been in (in England), you aren't supposed to take in any food you haven't bought from the cinema. I usually take in a litre bottle of water (I take it everywhere), and most people put a bag of sweets in their pocket.

I ALWAYS bring something in with me. But it is usually a bar or some nuts. I wouldn't ever bring a bag of popcorn! I bring things that are fresh that they don't sell there. But I can't eat popcorn anyway, so I guess that's moot!

I'm also not a movie snacker. It's not exactly that tough to go 1 1/2-2 hours without food. I do bring gum and sometimes my husband and I sneak cans of diet soda in. Usually I just bring water, though.

I've bagged pre-popped low calorie popcorn from home before and a friend of mine will pack, get this, a ziplock bag of olives in her purse beforehand lol. Occasionally, I'll slip a granola bar into my purse and I always have my water bottle.

Every once in awhile I'll eat some popcorn (if the hubby buys some) but usually I don't bring/buy any snacks.

What about the option of 'No, I bring candy that doesn't cost $20."

Concession stands are usually too pricey for me unless I split with someone. But in general, prefer not to be watching, not chewing away.

I do not go to the movies that often, so when I do I eat all the junk food I can.

I'm another movie-non-snacker. Eating is distracting for me. If I'm hungry, I'll go to a nearby food court before or after.

I sneak things in, but it's not healthy. It's usually liquor!

Nah...theres no way that I could go to a theater and snack on something healthy while everyone else is having yummy popcorn/nachos etc! If I get anything, its a small popcorn or small nachos. I do usually try to sneak in a water bottle though (not a big soda drinker). I figure I don't go to the theaters very often...maybe a couple times a year, so when I do I might as well get the full, albeit overpriced, experience.

I bring my own sour patch kids and water. I go to the movie theater like three times a year so I'm not too concerned.

i generally don't want to eat during a film, so i'll only take water or juice with me; however, if the people i'm with get popcorn, i'll have a handful and that's it - i can definitely resist cinema snacks and have no urge to snack during a screening

I don't go often, so when I do, I get small popcorn with butter and a diet pepsi and eat that for dinner. If I have eaten dinner, I won't usually get anything.

I also usually never eat anything during the movies - but I did recently see Eclipse during my usual dinner time and I hadn't had a chance to grab a snack beforehand, so I did sneak a Kind bar into the movie in my purse.

Where's the option of not eating anything at the movies? I never eat anything — if anything, I'll just chew on gum. I usually eat before/after the movie.
