Do You Drink Sports Drinks When You're Not Working Out?

During a race or intense workout, I really, really enjoy drinking Gatorade, especially red Gatorade. When I'm not working out, I can't stand the stuff. My best friend, on the other hand, absolutely loves Gatorade. She loves it so much, in fact, that as soon as a new flavor comes out in her local grocery store, she buys a couple bottles and has a tasting party. Seriously.

Sports drinks are actually engineered for sipping during workouts every 10 to 15 minutes to maintain your blood volume. In my mind, Gatorade, Powerade, and the like are made for working out, not for sipping. I try to avoid caloric drinks as it is, and don't enjoy the taste of sports drinks enough to seek them out when I'm not working out. What about you?

I never drink sports drinks--they taste really salty to me and I figure as long as I drink enough water and get plenty of electrolytes from my foods, I shouldn't need them.

I drink sports drinks when I am doing a really hard work out or if I am working really hard outside in my yard or on my house and sweating buckets. Otherwise I just drink water.

Gatorade has this weird powdery chemical taste to me. I'm not a fan.

The only time I've ever had gatorade is when I've had a virus that has caused me to lose fluids and nutriets. Like others have said, I stick to water when I'm exercising.

It's a sports drink, not an exercise and weight loss drink, and I use it accordingly. For high endurance activities, the sugar is an intentional part of the formula! I use it mostly in the summer for soccer games or longer races.

NEVER drink Gatorade. I think I have an aversion to them because I drank a lot of it when I was on a strict liquid diet due to my chronic stomach illness.

Drinking gatorade, or any sugary drink while working out is so weird to me. I so love vitamin water revive for a hangover though! It's a magic bullet!

I was told that a pinch of salt and a little squash in water is all you need to replace your electrolyte levels. But even that is too much fuss for me. If I ain't running a marathon, water'll do all the way.

I voted that I never drink them, but in reality I do drink them-- when I'm sick. But, I also dilute it so its 50% sports drink, 50% water. I think it helps with dehydration and also if I'm sick enough to want to drink it, I'm probably not eating much either so the extra calories are ok.

I think they taste gross and don't believe that they do anything for your body that some fruit can't do better. See point one.

I usually only drink regular water when I'm working out, but I'll drink a sports drink if I'm hungover.
