Do You Get a Better Workout Alone or With a Buddy?

With my busy schedule between work and family, it's hard to coordinate exercising with a friend. So I end up sweating it out on my own most of the time. I do love working out with a buddy though, so at least once a week I try to plan fitness dates. If I exercise with someone who loves to push themselves, it really motivates me and I end up getting a better workout than if I were solo. How about you?

I prefer to work-out alone. Having someone to work out w/ doesn't let me keep focus or concentrate.

Buddy. But that Buddy has to be my brother Andy. With anyone else i get annoyed and want to sock them in the face.

I never work out with people and hate when people I know show up at the gym when I am mid-way through my work out... get on a machine next to me, and expect to have a convo - that's NOT what I am there for, I am there to sweat my booty off - now when I am done with exercise and my buddy(ies) want to go for a walk and talk, then I am totally down, but I have to get my sweat busting work out in first!

Personally for me, it depends on who the friend is. I have friends who will hold me back and those who will push me to go further.

It always motivates me when I am meeting a friend at the gym- it makes me have to go and commit. Especially when we are on the same piece of cardio next to each other. A silent competition. At the same time- if we're near each other- we tend to talk and that can slow down my workout. So it's a catch 22.

I definitely feel like I get more out of my gym time when I go with someone. When I'm alone I tend to get bored and am tempted to leave early. I've started taking a book with me when I hit the gym (our treadmills and bikes have little book holders for people to put their ipods) and that helps but I still have to shake my routine up more often.

If I work out with a buddy when I'm running or doing other cardio, I find that most of my "buddies" can't or don't want to keep up with my pace, so I prefer to do most of my cardio stuff alone. However, I do like to have a buddy if I'm doing yoga or weights because they can analyze my form and I can get the best workout possible.

It's definitely funner trying to have a conversation when you're huffing and puffing so, I guess I'm going for working out with a buddy. It's all fine and dandy when I work out alone but, it tends to get more boring.

i don't really like to work out with other people. i feel like sometimes they slow me down or i pay too much attention to them. for example, i dragged my husband with me to work out at one point, and i spent more time making sure that he was ok since he's not a typical gym person than focusing on my workout and i cut mine short cause i knew that he wasn't going to last as long as i usually do

Alone. Exercise it my "me time." Besides, if a friend is around, I would be too busy socializing. :)

In therms of just getting there--especially on cold or rainy days--it helps to have a buddy! Also, I am SO bad about avoiding weight training, so if I am with someone who does weights, I am more likely to do it. But I definitely don't mind going alone!

As much as I would love to workout with a buddy, most of my friends are wimpy - I say that with all the kindness in the word. I love their girlieness, but I want to work out with someone who doesn't mind lifting weights, or pushing themselves on a run.

I'm in my own zone when I work out, so even when I'm with a buddy, it doesn't push/hinder me.

Biking is my main form of exercise and I almost always do it alone. I love being able to do intervals at my own pace and push myself if I want to keep going without worrying if the other person wants to do the same. Sometimes it's nice to ride with my friend who races though, because he totally kicks my ass and pushes me to keep up.
