Totally agree, especially the sugary breakfast and skipping meals part (http://alwaysactiveathletics.com/dont-starve-yourself-the-effects-of-dieting/) not only on an energy standpoint but just a wellness aspect! I would also like to point out that not drinking enough water throughout the day can also cause fatigue as the day wears on (I know its not a food but the principle remains). Drink up!

It all depends on the type of fat! Naturally occurring fats (nuts, olive oil, fatty meat, avocado, fish...) are largely digested and absorbed before they even leave the stomach and give you abundant energy. Artificial fats (margarine, vegetable oil, soy-bean oil...) are indigestible and coat the insides of your intestine, stopping the absorption of vital nutrients and reabsorption of water (hence why you get 'the runs' if you eat too much fast food or fry your food in these oils!), this, combined with the entrance of trans-fat particles into the body through the Peyer's patches which leads to your body's immune system being overwhelmed (after all, you're putting an unnatural lipid compound straight into your body!) leads to sluggishness, digestive imbalance and a feeling of overall weakness. So eat as much natural fats as you like, just avoid anything polyunsaturated, trans or hydrogenized.

Love this post. (I wrote a mirror image post a while back titled The Secrets to a High Energy Day.) I couldn't agree more that a sugary breakfast and high fat foods zap our energy and frankly, make us feel bad, too. We should remember this when we're thinking of giving our kids Froot Loops and chicken fingers - same rules apply to them!
